The danzon evolved from danzas & contradanzas similar to European court dances; the minuet, for example. By 1860 the danzon was gaining popularity and by the early 20th century similar versions were found in places like New Orleans and Mexico. The danzon is a courtly dance with Afro-Cuban influences in the rhythms. It begins slowly with a slow paseo, or processional. It moves to a livelier tempo in the next section, another paseo and finally the mambo section. The mambo section is quite animated with sudden turns and stops while maintaining a regal attitude. Finally it ends with a flourish of melody and rhythm; the last gasp of young dancers in their Sunday fineries.

These works were composed on Finale music software by MakeMusic Inc. Since a score is also produced in manuscript form, the piece can be performed and recorded by live musicians. My interest is in sharing my work with listeners and musicians and have the work performed as it is intended; by live musicians.
